Looking forward to all the extra grip, for sure.

Could anyone tell me why my front right tire was on super tight, while the rest I could release with just my arm? Is there some reason that one gets or ends up tighter?

I’m jealous of how easy changing your wheels seems to have been

What’s the digital caliper for? I tried to figure out how you might use it to measure tread depth, but I couldn't think of a way.

How much harder should it be? I have two sets of wheels and tires because I found the difficulty/expense of swapping the tires themselves was worse than just storing a full mounted set.

I use it to measure tread depth. If you have one, slide it open. Do you see that bit hanging out the back? That’s for measuring depth.

I’ve pruned, cut up, and hauled out about 700 lbs of rhodies since the snow stopped. Also have three more Camellias that haven’t been touched since I presume the ‘80s. We have some nice potted perennials waiting for the rain to stop so they can be planted , so this house might a bit less unoccupied.

Wow, t hat’s a lot of rhododendron... All mine are tiny, like around the size of the Top Hat blueberry. In fact, I got that specific one so it could fill a space between a couple rhodies.

Have your camellias been blooming? Mine went nuts over the last week or so  and the recent rain knocked most of the blooms off.

My parents’ have a ton of rhododendrons at their house, it would be easy to cart of way more than that. Though the deer are pretty aggressive about removing them as well, I’m not sure they’d be able to handle a harsh pruning when any new growth would get chomped right away.

Oh they’re healthy and they look nice, but man the flowers fall off when you just look at them funny. Basically need to be raked daily -- which of course I don’t do.

Do people really replace tires because of measured tread depth? If you have the equipment to measure wear that’s cool. With visual , drive ability, and noise should be a clue. But walk a Walmart parking lot and  measure tires. My favorite is the fender wear from blown airbags.

I still use a penny to measure depth. I’ve also only owned two cars long enough to replace the tires.

This is one of the benefits of landscapers...

I don’t even look at them and they fall off, but heaven forbid the wind blow or rain come down pretty hard. They’re really pretty, though.

Well lah dee DAH. Do  you work in Seattle now or still Eastside?

I track the measurements to better predict when I will need new ones. I also did it this time to find which were most worn so I could put the least worn pair on the front of the car. Usually they get rotated with oil changes at the dealer, but for the winter-spring swap I just put the ones with the thickest tread on the front in case they’re not wearing evenly from the typical rotations.

At the rate my tires are going, they’ll need to be replaced due to age, not  wear...

Still eastside. I was doing that before I had a new job, so...

Also, the main reason is that I’m extremely allergic to grass. I care for the blueberry bushes myself... The next shrub I want to plant is a Rubus leucodermis, once I decide on a spot/spots, find somewhere that sells them, and get my wife to trust me that they don’t spread in the same way as  cultivated raspberries.

Oh, it shouldn’t be hard. But when I did this a few weeks ago on my recently-purchased used car, I had a really hard time due to rusty lug nuts and seized wheels. Seems like the previous owner had not had them rotated in years.

I didn’t realize that feature of digital calipers. Thanks!

The only times I’ve ever had that problem is when some jackass used an air impact wrench to tighten the nuts. That’d destroy these cheesy Ford nuts, which is probably why they don’t  do that crap to them.

I just read through your post and I’m baffled on those stuck nuts and then the rust holding the wheel on. My car is almost completely rust free. My unpainted brake calipers and the edges of the rotors are still shiny, which is kind of freaky . There’s only the lightest pattern of surface rust behind the wheel matching the shape/pattern of the wheels. My 20-year-old Lincoln was in about the same shape after all those years with a tiny bit more rust along the edge because it sat so much.

I was pretty confused myself . It must have started when the car was in West Virginia. It’s only been in the PNW for the last five years (and it’s fifteen years old). It’s an odd place for it to start , though. As far as I can see, the rest of the car is rust-free, though I haven’t put it on a lift or anything. I had it inspected at a reputable Volvo dealer (at least, according to RPM) and they made no mention of any rust.
